Each computer is a refurbished desktop, professionally wiped and equipped with Linux Mint, a free, modern operating system with ongoing security updates. It includes a web browser for email, online banking, streaming, and job searches, along with an office suite for creating letters, resumes, homework, and spreadsheets. With a solid-state drive and 8GB of memory, your computer is ready for everyday tasks.
During class, you will learn on the same computer you will take home. Topics include browsing the web, creating documents, installing programs, updating your system, and backing up files. You will leave with a desktop computer, a keyboard, mouse, HDMI cable, printed quick-start guide, and an invitation to attend SVCC's free monthly Linux help clinic.
Simply connect your computer to a monitor or TV with an HDMI port to get started. No prior computer experience is necessary. Three hours of friendly, hands-on instruction are included. Please bring a box or tote bag to carry your computer and accessories home.
